Vintage Quality Street tins

Why buy new storage boxes when you can just reuse old sweet tins? They are so pretty and versatile. My mum used sweet tins, usually left over after Christmas, to put all her sewing supplies in. I also remember using them to take buns into school for bake sales. I would have to put a label with my name on the tin otherwise I would be in trouble for not bringing it home! I found these two lovelies in a vintage shop and charity shop. The large one was full of old sewing supplies which was rather a nice surprise. They look so lovely on my sewing shelf. I must find more!

Why I'm starting a small business

If I had to write a book about my life it would probably be one of those cheesy paperbacks where boy meets girl, girl gets her heart broken, has a pretty rough time of it for a while until a big life event forces her to make some drastic life changes. Everyone questions her choices but she does her own thing anyway and everything turns out rosy. So, last month I was made redundant after 13 years with the same company. I had been toying with the idea of leaving for a few years, finding it harder and harder to juggle what was becoming a very stressful office job with caring for my young daughter who has her fair share of problems. Perhaps I should be completely devastated by this change of circumstance, loss of job security, a regular income, the list goes on. Instead I am choosing to look at it as an opportunity to carve out another path for myself and start channeling my energy into doing something I love. Sustainable Clothing

Wouldn't it be wonderful to live a more sustainable life? I've been intrigued by this concept for a while now and have already adopted some positive changes in my daily life, buying second hand, using less plastic, being more economical around the home. It's one of the reasons I started buying vintage for my home and it's the main inspiration behind the things I make. I'm not one for fast fashion but I do like my clothes and having multiple outfit choices. This year I've made the decision not to not buy new, I am only buying second hand clothing (aside from underwear, that would be taking things a step too far!) Already this year I've bought some gorgeous clothing for myself and my daughter from online auction sites. Just because you buy second hand clothing doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your style for the sake of the environment. Personally it has got me thinking more about my look and making bolder choices with the outfits I put together...
