Great Aunt Doris's Singer Sewing Machine

This beautiful set has been passed down the family and is actually my parents but it was just sat gathering dust in their loft. I mentioned I was looking for one and 'voila' I'm now in possession of the complete set including machine, table, singer mat and box and all still in good working order! This photo is actually taken in my bedroom which is not where this little gem sits. I do use the table for my electric sewing machine though which does live in this corner of the room, it's a great spot for a bit of sewing :-) How I make this work in my home........ It sits proudly on my vintage teak display cabinet/sideboard in my living room for all to see. Home sweet home xx

Vintage Quality Street tins

Why buy new storage boxes when you can just reuse old sweet tins? They are so pretty and versatile. My mum used sweet tins, usually left over after Christmas, to put all her sewing supplies in. I also remember using them to take buns into school for bake sales. I would have to put a label with my name on the tin otherwise I would be in trouble for not bringing it home! I found these two lovelies in a vintage shop and charity shop. The large one was full of old sewing supplies which was rather a nice surprise. They look so lovely on my sewing shelf. I must find more!

Why I'm starting a small business

If I had to write a book about my life it would probably be one of those cheesy paperbacks where boy meets girl, girl gets her heart broken, has a pretty rough time of it for a while until a big life event forces her to make some drastic life changes. Everyone questions her choices but she does her own thing anyway and everything turns out rosy. So, last month I was made redundant after 13 years with the same company. I had been toying with the idea of leaving for a few years, finding it harder and harder to juggle what was becoming a very stressful office job with caring for my young daughter who has her fair share of problems. Perhaps I should be completely devastated by this change of circumstance, loss of job security, a regular income, the list goes on. Instead I am choosing to look at it as an opportunity to carve out another path for myself and start channeling my energy into doing something I love.
